Tripura: Ganja worth Rs 5.4 crore seized, two arrested


Ganja worth Rs 5.4 crore has been seized and two persons have been arrested in Pecharthal under Unakoti district, police said on Thursday.

Talking to www.tripuratoday.com over telephone Sub Inspector of Pecharthal police Station R. Monir Halam said that acting on a tip-off, police intercepted an oil tanker bearing number AS01 AC 6267 in front of Pecharthal Police Station and seized the huge cache of Ganja.

We searched the oil tanker and seized 3663.5 kilograms of Ganja. The market value of the seized Ganja is about Rs 5.4 crore. We have arrested the driver identified as Priyalal Debbarma (27) who is a resident of Kalyanpur and the assistant identified as Paresh Debbarma (42) of Madai. As per preliminary interrogation, it was found that the oil tanker was coming from Agartala side and was en route to Assam, SI Halam added.

A case under NDPS Act has been registered against the duo. They will be produced before the court tomorrow, Halam said.
