Justice Surya Kant pitches for early disposal of cases in courts


The 10th Annual Judicial Conclave was held here at Agartala on Saturday. Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant had inaugurated the progranmme and called for strengthening the judicial system.

Chief Justice Tripura High Court Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Tripura High Court Justice Arindam Lodh, Advocate General Siddharth Shankar Dey, Tripura Bar Council Chairman Ratan Dutta, High Court Bar Association President Purushottam Roy Burman, Tripura Judicial Academy Director Rishikesh Chakraborty, Senior High Court and Supreme Court lawyers and Chief Secretary J K Sinha among others were present in the programme.

Addressing the gathering of lawyers and advocates here at Agartala Narshingarh Tripura Judicial Academy auditorium, Justice Surya Kant said that the role of the judiciary is questioned if cases remain unresolved in the court for a long time.

“There is a need for every judge to take the responsibility of disposing cases expeditiously,” he said and emphasised on the system of settling cases through discussion. He also said, “There is a need for judicial officers to participate in training and awareness programs.”

Emphasising the need for a robust district judicial system to dispose of such cases, Justice Surya Kant said very few people can travel to the constitutional bench therefore there is a need for well well-equipped district judicial system by way of imparting training and sensitisation programmes for judicial officers.

Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh highlighted the thin pendency in the high court due to cooperation from lawyers who are meticulously and effectively taking up cases during the trial.

Justice Surya Kant virtually inaugurated the newly constructed binding of Kamalpur District and Sessions Court from the dais.
