Minister Sudhangshu Das distributes benefits to farmers to boost fish production


The state fishery minister Sudhangshu Das on Thursday claimed that the government is working to enhance fish production in the state through expansion of fisheries across the state.

Minister Sudhangshu Das attended the event of distribution of benefits to the fish farmers in West Tripura district under Mukhya Mantri Matsya Bikash Yojana here at Agartala Sukanta Academy.

Addressing the gathering in the event, the minister said that the government is putting utmost effort in making the state self sufficiency in fish production to meet the demand. Presently, the state has a demand of about 32,000 metric tons of fish, he said, adding that fish has to be imported from other countries or neighboring Bangladesh to meet the demand.

He said, if the state can be self-sufficient in fish production, it is possible to meet the demand of 32000 metric tons of fish very easily. Assistance is being given to fish farmers in various schemes to increase fish production in the state, he added.

Initiatives has been taken to identify abandoned water sources and also make new reservoirs to increase fish production in the state, he said, adding that 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers with ice boxes are being provided at subsidized cost to the fishermen of the state under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Bikash Yojana for fish marketing and preservation.
