2-day long Diwali Fest begins in centuries-old Tripura Sundari temple amid rain


Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha Monday inaugurated the tradition Diwali festival at the centuries-old Tripura Sundari Temple at Udaipur in Gomati district. The two days long festival has begun from Monday amid the warning of heavy influence of the cyclone ‘Sitrang’ in the state. The festival and fair will continue till Tuesday and is expected to be extended further. ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, MLA Biplab Kumar Ghosh, tribal welfare minister Rampada Jamatia and state transport and tourism minister Pranajit Singha Roy among others were present in the function on Monday.

Addressing the gathering the chief minister said that the Tripura Sundari temple would be made as one of the best temples in the country by next year. Dr. Saha also the chairman of the Matabari trust underlined the initiative of the centre in developing the tourists and religious sites of the country and said that, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the initiative of developing and identifying pilgrimage sites across India for enriching the religious tourism experience under the PRASAD scheme.” “By virtue of the post of chairman of the Matabari trust, I held a meeting recently with the officials of the trust to review the ongoing construction work surrounding the temple. The trust is working tirelessly to develop the temple with full transparency,” he claimed.

Meanwhile, the chief minister targeted the previous government and said, “We are committed to develop this centuries old temple here in Udaipur to attract more tourists from the state and abroad as the present government is ‘Astik’ (one who believes in religion) while the previous government was ‘Nastik’ (One who has no believe on religion).” He however expressed concern over the warning of heavy influence of the cyclone Sitrang here in the state and said, “Several plans were made this year in this temple centering the Diwali festival, but the rain and IMD warning of heavy influence of cyclone Sitrang has disrupted the things. We also had to cancel the special trains which were kept ready centering the festival.”
