Tripura Govt to set up new hospital in capital town

In view of the growing burden in the two referral hospitals in the state – GBP and IGM hospital, the Tripura government is mulling to set up a new civil hospital in the capital town of Agartala.

Health secretary Kiren Gitte accompanied by the Commissioner of the Agartala Municipal Corporation Dr Sailesh Kumar Yadav, Mayor Dipak Majumder and other officials on Thursday visited a potential site for setting up the hospital.

During the visit, the secretary Kiren Gitte informed that the plan for setting up a new hospital in Agartala has come to reduce the burden in IGM and GBP hospital. He further informed that the new hospital will be managed by the AMC.

All essential services, including those available at sub-divisional hospitals, would be provided at the proposed facility, Gitte affirmed.

Gitte said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, who oversees the health portfolio, has conducted inspections of various healthcare facilities to explore ways to enhance services at government hospitals.
