Govt working for overall development of tribals in Tripura: CM Dr. Manik Saha

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday inaugurated a daylong workshop with Pradhan Samajpatis of different tribal communities of Tripura here at Agartala Pragna Bhavan and claimed that the present government is working for overall development of the indigenous tribes of the state.

He said, “During the time of the previous government, the tribals were simply used as vote banks and no development was brought to enhance their livelihood.” He said that the previous government wanted to sustain power by creating problems, while the present government is working to solve the problems.

“The state government is also paying due honour to the heads of different communities of Tripura by acknowledging the contribution of kings of Tripura,” he said, adding that since after the formation of BJP government at the Centre in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been relentlessly working for the welfare of the tribal people.

He said, “The Tripura government has sent a proposal to the Centre to increase the ADC sets from 28 to 50 so that every indigenous person gets a chance to represent their tribes of Tripura. Earlier I demanded inclusion of the Darlong community officially in the Tripura tribes and accordingly the bill was passed in the parliament.”

He said the central government is also giving its all-out support to the state government in regard to development of the ADC area. The Union finance minister sanctioned Rs. 13,000 crore for the overall development of ADC, he reiterated.

Industries and commerce minister Santana Chakma, state cooperation minister Shukla Charan Noatia, tribal welfare minister Bikash Debbarma and others were present in the workshop.
