Election Commission Meets Stakeholders on Heat Wave Preparedness

Election Commission has constituted a task force to monitor heat wave conditions before every phase of the Lok Sabha polls. The task force comprises of officials from Election Commission, IMD, National Disaster Management Authority and Ministry of Health. They will review the impact of heat wave and humidity, five days before each polling phase for any concerning developments and mitigatory measures. The Commission will also hold a separate review with State Chief Electoral Officers to ensure adequate arrangements at polling stations including shamiyana, drinking water, fans, and other assured minimum facilities.
The Director General of IMD has informed Election Commission that there is no major concern with regard to heat wave for the second phase of the General Elections scheduled on 26th of this month. The weather forecast is normal for the 13 States and UTs going for polls in this Phase.
In view of reports of above normal temperatures and heat waves in certain parts of the country, the Commission today held a meeting with concerned agencies to understand the developing weather situation and discuss measures to mitigate any risk due to hot weather conditions. The meeting was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu.
