CM Dr Manik Saha inaugurates Police Week Celebration


Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday claimed that the state of Tripura mong the 28 other states in the country ranked third in terms of lowest crime rate.

He stated this while inaugurating the Police Week Celebration here at Agartala Arundhutinagar Manoranjan Debbarma Memorial Stadium.

He hailed the role of the Tripura police and said, “The success achieved by the Tripura Police in improving law and order in the state has been appreciated across the country.”

“Tripura recorded 110 crimes per lakh population, whereas the national average is 422. Tripura ranks eighth lowest among 28 states in terms of physical assault related offences. In this regard, Tripura has 43.8 crimes per lakh population, while the national average is 84. Tripura ranks lowest among 28 states in terms of property related crimes. Only 11.9 such crimes were recorded per lakh population. Whereas the national average is 20.8,” he added.

He said, “In terms of crime against women, Tripura ranked the 8th lowest among 28 states. Tripura recorded 37 crimes against women per lakh population. Whereas the national average is 66.”

Chief Minister said that strict action is being taken against crimes related to women. Help desks have been opened and is currently operational 24 hours in every police station to create a suitable environment for women.

“A significant improvement was observed in the overall crime picture including dowry related crimes, dacoity, theft, murder etc. in the previous year,” he said, adding that a significant success has also been achieved in detaining illegal infiltrators, particularly Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.
