Campaign train ends; vigilance across border intensified for Feb 16 assembly poll


With the end of the campaign trail for the political parties of the state on Tuesday the vigilance across the bordering areas and other parts has been intensified following the February 16 assembly election.

Polling will take place in 3,328 polling booths, out of which 1,100 are sensitive and 28 are categorised as critical.

According to the state election commission the campaign for the assembly elections ended at 4 pm on Tuesday without any major law and order issue while the poll machinery dispatched to ensure a free and fair election on February 16.

At a time when the ruling BJP party rolled on their ‘Vijay Sankalp Yatra’ till 4 pm on Tuesday with the party’s heavyweight leaders including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, MPs and a dozen central ministers campaigned in favour of candidates of the saffron party here in the state, the opposition panel of the Left-Congress and the TIPRA Motha party left no stone unturned to gain the battle ground against the BJP.

A total of 259 candidates are in the electoral race, of whom 20 are women.

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has imposed section 144 CrPC from today at 10:00 PM that will continue till 6:00 AM of February 17.
