Meghalaya Cabinet Approves Film Tourism Policy 2025 to Position State as Cinematic Hub
Jul 10, 2025
In a landmark move aimed at promoting Meghalaya as a prime destination for filmmaking, the Meghalaya Cabinet has officially approved the Meghalaya Film Tourism Policy 2025. The policy is set to transform the scenic northeastern state into a key hub for film production in the region and beyond.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced the Cabinet’s decision on Wednesday, highlighting that the policy was finalized following an extensive consultation process. “After receiving over 200 stakeholder feedbacks on the Draft Meghalaya Film Policy, we incorporated the inputs and presented the final policy to the Cabinet for approval,” Sangma posted on social media platform X.
Recognizing Meghalaya’s cinematic potential, the policy is designed to attract regional, national, and international filmmakers by leveraging the state’s natural beauty, diverse cultures, and unique landscapes.
To facilitate implementation and coordination, a dedicated Film Facilitation Cell has been established. The cell comprises officials from the Departments of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), and other key agencies. Its primary role will be to assist filmmakers, streamline administrative processes, and promote the state as a film-friendly destination.
“This policy is a step towards tapping into Meghalaya’s immense potential as a filmmaking hub in the Northeast,” the Chief Minister stated. “We aim to create a thriving ecosystem that not only attracts filmmakers but also boosts tourism and creates employment opportunities for local communities.”
The Meghalaya Film Tourism Policy 2025 is expected to bring long-term benefits to the state’s economy by encouraging creative industries, generating jobs in various sectors, and showcasing Meghalaya’s heritage to global audiences.
