Police detains six women with 18 kgs of ‘Ganja’


Tripura police apprehended six inter-state ganja smugglers all of them Women and confiscated 18 kilograms of ganja valued at approximately Rs 4 lakh from Banika Chowmuhani area under Boudhjung Nagar Police Station on Thursday midnight.

The officer in charge of Bodhjungnagar police station Krishnadhan Sarkar said that they received information, on the basis of the information police personnel from Bodhjungnagar police station intercepted a vehicle bearing number TR01 AQ 0494 at Banika Chowmuhani area. The driver of the vehicle managed to fled away. Police apprehended six inter-state women ganja smugglers all of them residents of Bihar. The seized marijuana (ganja) was wrapped in their body. After the preliminary investigation, the arrested people said that the seized marijuana (ganja) was intended for smuggling purpose beyond Tripura’s border. Moreover, the estimated value of the confiscated marijuana (ganja) in the illicit market amounts to approximately Rs 4 lakh, the police officer said.

They will be produced before the court on Friday, cases under NDPS act have been registered against them. We have already started the investigation and soon we will be able to nab the persons from whom they are buying the marijuana (ganja). A hunt is on to arrest the driver, added the police officer.
