Tripura celebrates Gandhi Jayanti


Tripura along with rest of the nation celebrated the birth anniversary of Father of Nation - Mahatma Gandhi on Monday in a befitting manner. The main state level programme was organized at Gandhighat in Agartala where Minister for Industry & Commerce, Jail (Home) OBC Welfare Santana Chakma hoisted the National Flag and offered floral tributes at Gandhi statue.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Industry & Commerce, Jail (Home) OBC Welfare Santana Chakma said Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, India. He became one of the most respected spiritual and political leaders of the 1900's. Gandhi helped free the Indian people from British rule through nonviolent resistance, and is honoured by Indians as the father of the Indian Nation, she added.

Mahatma Gandhi envisioned an "Atmanirbhar bharat" where every village is self-reliant. There is much to learn from Mahatma Gandhi whose life and thoughts are even relevant today, said Santana Chakma .

The BJP-led Tripura government has given utmost importance to build self-reliant Tripura. Various plans are being implemented to build self-reliant Tripura. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wants to build a self-reliant India, she added.
