Tripura Govt forms committee to support victims of political violence: CM Dr. Manik Saha


Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday said that the state cabinet on Tuesday last formed a panel to review the requirements of supporting the victims of political violence.

Dr. Saha made this statement while visiting the residence of Tapan Bhowmik, who died after being assaulted by miscreants after the Assembly election results were announced, at Gorkhabasti in Agartala. The Chief Minister handed over a cheque of Rs 2 lakh to his family.

“In view of the incidents of political violence, which incurs loss of the lives of people, the state cabinet on Tuesday last formed a committee to see what can be done to support the victims of the political violence,” Dr. Saha told reporters.

Dr. Saha expressed his concern over the death of Tapan Bhowmik, who lost his life in a politically motivated violence after the declaration of the results of the assembly election. He said, “Tapan Bhowmik was brutally assaulted by the miscreants belonging to the CPI(M) party on March 2 last. Police are dealing with the issue. They have got anticipatory bail. Our party and the government will look into it.”
