In a major anti-narcotics operation, police in North Tripura's Churaibari seized a large consignment of illegal drugs on Sunday morning. Acting on a tip-off, Churaibari Police intercepted a mini truck bearing registration number TR05 C1755 at a routine checkpoint and recovered 80,000 Yaba tablets hidden in multiple concealed packages.
The estimated black market value of the seized drugs is approximately Rs 4 crore.
The truck driver, identified as Sanjay Sahani, a resident of Churaibari, was arrested on the spot. He is currently being held under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and a formal investigation is underway.
North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai, who is supervising the investigation, stated that the consignment is believed to have originated from Assam and was en route to Tripura when intercepted.
Authorities suspect the involvement of a larger drug trafficking network and have vowed to intensify surveillance along the Assam-Tripura border to curb such illegal activities.
