‘No Greater Tipraland, Tripura Govt focused on tribal welfare’: CM Dr. Manik Saha

Day after taking the oath of his office of the Chief Minister of the second term of the BJP-IPFT government, Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday ruled out the ‘Greater Tipraland’ demand raised by the opposition TIPRA Motha party and said, “Government would rather focus on every possibility to work for the welfare of the tribal people of the state.”

The Chief Minister made this statement a day after the TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Manikya Deb Burman said that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah had assured him of an official appointment of an interlocutor to bring constitutional solution to his demand.

“We are not in favour of development by division of state. We are against the demand of Greater Tipraland, but we are committed to undertaking ambitious schemes and projects on priority for the socio-economic development of the tribal people,” CM Dr. Saha told reporters.

Meanwhile, reacting to the statement of the Chief Minister, the TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot tweeted, “Let him say what he wants to that's his view , Relax I will always fight for our interest first.”

“Hon cm views are respected but in a democracy the views of the minorities are also not silenced. That's the difference between Bharat and Islamic Bangladesh,” the tweet reads further.

Earlier on Wednesday evening Pradyot stated, “The Home Minister has started the process for a constitutional solution for the indigenous people of Tripura. An interlocutor for this process will be appointed and this will be within a specific time frame.”
