Nepal Flood: Death Toll Rises to 209, Over 4,500 Rescued


Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs confirms that the death toll has increased to 209 people, 29 people are still missing and 142 people are injured. Nepal Army and Police have rescued more than 4,500 people. 

There is severe damage to infrastructure as roads are broken and blocked,16 bridges are damaged and there is severe loss of personal properties of residents in flood-affected areas. People’s livelihoods and businesses are adversely affected. The Department of Roads is trying to remove debris from blocked roads connecting to the federal capital of Nepal. The Bhainse-Bhimphedi road has been blocked due to a landslide in Makwanpur. Two-way traffic has resumed along the Prithvi Highway after clearing the landslide debris this morning. Works are also underway to clear the landslides on other blocked roads. Over 1,700 vehicles have entered Kathmandu following the clearance of the Prithvi Highway which was blocked by a landslide at Jhyaplekhola in Dahding.

Passengers stranded along the BP Highway in Kavrepalanchowk due to flooding from the Roshi River are expected to be rescued soon. A Nepali Army team has been deployed to assist with the rescue operations using ropes and aerial support.
