Nifty falls 112 points, sensex slips as midcap and smallcap drop 1.5%

Indian equity indices ended on a weak note today. The benchmark indices started the day in Green but failed to sustain their rally as the session progressed. The Nifty50 wrapped up today’s session with a drop of 0.45 per cent or 112 points, closing at 24,741 while the Sensex finished the trading day down by 0.05 per cent, closing at 81,180. In the broader market at Bombay Stock Exchange, Midcap and smallcap indices shed 1.5 per cent each.
In the Sensex index, 21 out of 30 companies ended in negative territory.
In laggards, Kotak Mahindra lost 4.29 per cent, Bajaj Finserv shed 3.05 per cent and IndusInd Bank fell 2.86 per cent. Conversely, in the top gainers, HDFC Bank increased 2.83 per cent, Asian Paint gained 1.58 per cent and Mahindra and Mahindra added 0.91 per cent.
In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 19 out of 20 sectors logged losses. The top laggards were, Services which declined 1.92 per cent, Oil and Gas slipped by 1.68 per cent, and Industrials were down by 1.65 per cent. Whereas the Auot sector added 0.27 per cent and was the top gainer.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative as shares of 1,132 companies advanced and 2,914 declined while 138 remained unchanged.
