Woman held with 20,000 Yaba tablets


In a joint operation one woman was arrested was arrested along with 20,000 yaba tablets from Dharmanagar Railway Station on Tuesday.

Briefing the media persons on Tuesday Superintendent of Police, North Tripura Bhanupada Chakraborty said we received an information, accordingly a joint operations was laid by the Government Railway Police (GRP), RPF along with police personnel from Dharmanagar  police station and arrested a woman from the Silchar Agartala train. During the search they found 20,000 yaba tablets from her possession. Moreover, the estimated value of the seized yaba tablets in the illicit market amounts to approximately Rs 1 crore. The seized yaba tablets was intended for smuggling purposes beyond Tripura's borders, SP Bhanupada Chakraborty said.

The arrested woman has been identified as Jahanara Begum (47) resident of Boxanagar. After the preliminary probe the arrested woman confessed that she has brought these yaba tablets from Silchar and was talking them to Boxanagar.

According to sources, despite the attempts by the state government to make a drug free Tripura the flow of drugs are increasing in the state and the kingpins are using Tripura as a corridor for their illicit business.
