AGMC & GBP Hospital doctors perform atrial septal defect closure in heart


In yet another landmark surgery made in the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital, a dedicated team of doctors recently performed Interventional Closure of Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) successfully in the heart of a 54 years old woman. ASD closure is a procedure to close an atrial septal defect (ASD) or hole in your heart.

The 54-year-old woman, resident of Pratapgarh in Agartala, had a hole between the upper two chambers of her heart since birth. She was having abnormal blood circulation in her heart and was suffering from cardiac problems for a long time.

The cardiac surgeons of the AGMC and GBP Hospital closed her ASD by transcatheter method of ASD without performing open heart surgery.

The team of doctors who performed the ASD surgery successfully comprised of Consultant Cardiologist, Cardiologist Department In-charge, HOD Dr Anindya Sundar Trivedi, Consultant Cardiologist Unit Dr Rakesh Das, Anaesthesiologist Dr Surjit Pal, Cardiac Anaesthesiologist Dr Manimoy Debbarma, junior doctors of Cardiology Department Dr Arghya Pratim Nath, Dr Praksha Bose, Dr Samrat Das and others.

The patient was discharged from the Cardiologist Department on December 2 last and according to the doctors, the condition of the patient is currently stable.
