CM stresses on enhancing livelihood of people belonging to Scheduled Caste


Agartala, Feb 02: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday chaired a review meeting with the officials of SC Welfare department and stressed on enhancing the livelihood of the people belonging to the Scheduled Caste.Reviewing the progress of various projects of the SC Welfare Department in the meeting here at the secretariat, the Chief Minister said the government is working with utmost importance to bring the Scheduled Caste people to the forefront through overall development including education and economic development.

Deb advised the officers of the department to take necessary steps to make this section of people financially self-sufficient by associating them with various professions. The Chief Minister emphasized on making the benefits of various projects of the Central and State Governments implemented through the Scheduled Castes Welfare Department more public.The beneficiaries who have become financially self-sufficient through the various schemes of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department need to be encouraged and their successes need to be made public.

As a result, others will be inspired by it, Deb said. Minister for Scheduled Caste Welfare Bhagwan Chandra Das, Chief Secretary Kumar Alok, Chief Secretary for Scheduled Caste Welfare LH Darlong and Secretary for Planning Apurba Roy were present in the review meeting.The Director of the SC Welfare Department Santosh Das had presented an illustrated report on the steps taken by the department in view of the decisions taken at the last meeting.

He said that at present there are 6,54,918 Scheduled Caste people in the state. The department is working on plans for their education, economic development, social and infrastructural development. He said computer labs have been set up in 53 schools of the state by providing computers and laptops from the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department. In addition, 2750 young men and women have been given the necessary training to develop skills in various fields for self-reliance.
