12-hour ‘bandh’ affects normal life in Tripura ADC

The dawn-to-dusk general strike called by the opposition TIPRA Motha party on Saturday affected the normal life in the ADC areas of the state.

The strike was called to press the Centre for a constitutional solution for the indigenous tribes of the state and also for ‘Greater Tipraland’.

All offices, educational institutes and shops in the TTAADC areas were closed while vehicles were off the roads including Assam-Agartala national highway as bandh supporters put up road blockades in several key locations. The train services were also off the track in the ADC areas as the trains were not allowed to cross the area.

According to the party leader Jagadish Debbarma, the bandh was peaceful. He said that the bandh is mainly to put pressure on the Government of India for a constitutional solution to the problems of indigenous people.
