Soon after declaration of Tripura poll several injured on Congress-BJP clash in Majlishpur

Soon after the Election Commission of India (ECI) declared the assembly election in Tripura, a clash broke out between the ruling BJP party and the opposition Congress at Ranirbazar area in Majlishpur assembly constituency, which happens to be the constituency of the state information and cultural affairs minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

The incident took place on Wednesday while a large number of congress workers and supporters led by the national congress leader and state in-charge Dr. Ajay Kumar and party leader Ashish Shaha were walking on a rally to pass by the Ranirbazar area.

Video footage recorded during the incident found minister Sushanta Chowdhury engaged in an altercation with the congress national leader Dr. Ajay Kumar and Ashish Kumar Saha. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury rushed to the incident spot soon after the clash broke out and alleged that the Congress party attacked the BJP workers at Ranirbazar and triggered violence.

“We have seen the terror rule in the past 25 years of the communist party and now the Congress party which aligned with the CPI(M) is hatching terror tactics across the state like that of the incident that took place at Majlishpur constituency. Our party office was vandalized,” he alleged.

The incident injured many belonging to both the BJP and the Congress party, while the BJP party office at Ranirbazar was vandalized allegedly by the congress workers. On the other hand, the incident also injured the congress leader Dr. Ajay Kumar.

Meanwhile, the Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman held the BJP activists responsible for the clash and alleged that the BJP has yet again probed that they have been triggering fascistic attacks on the oppositions and common people of the state for the last five years.

He also appealed to the police to play an active role towards restricting fascistic attacks by the BJP cadres. He said, “Police are no more under the control of the state government with the enforcement of model code of conduct. Therefore, the helpless police should play an active role from now on so that the election is held in a free and fair manner.”

Tripura will go for a poll for 60-assembly constituencies on February 16 next, while the counting and publication of results will be held on March 2 this year.
