Want free and fair polls in Tripura: CEO


The Chief Electoral Office Kiran Gitte on Thursday sought the cooperation of all the political parties for ensuring violence-free elections.

Addressing a press conference in the conference hall of the DM of West Tripura district, the CEO said, “All the incidents related to the election of the 8 districts of the state are under the notice of the commission and quick action will be taken in this regard.”

“The Commission continues to make every effort to prevent any untoward incident,” he told reporters. DM Debapriya Bardhan, Superintendent of Police Shankar Debnath were present in the press conference.

He said that with the announcement of the election yesterday, the code of conduct has been introduced in the entire state. “Today a meeting was held with 8 political parties to discuss the model code of conduct and other issues,” he said, adding that election observers will start coming to the state from January 20.

The CEO informed that a total of 8 people have already been arrested in an unpleasant incident that took place at Jirania on Wednesday last. In another incident in Kamalpur, 4 people have already been arrested based on the complaint of the victim's family, he said.
