Agartala-Akhaura rail link to boost business in North-East: DoNER Minister G Kishan Reddy


The Union Minister of Development of North-East region (DoNER), Tourism and Culture G Kishan Reddy, Tuesday visited the ongoing construction work of state’s first international immigration station at Nishchintapur along the India-Bangladesh border and took stock of the Agartala-Akhaura rail link project works.

“Agartala-Akhaura rail link will enhance business in the North-East region of the country along with other parts of India and Bangladesh. This will also further strengthen the bond between India and Bangladesh,” he told reporters during his visit on Tuesday.

He said, “I talked with the engineers inducted in the project work and also with the officials and had a detailed discussion on completion of the project work within the targeted time frame. The work is under progress under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi vision of Act East Policy and Neighborhood Fast Policy.”

“As the Government of India is progressing in agriculture and manufacturing sector, it is committed to feed the need of the Bangladesh nation and the Agartala-Akhaura rail link project will cater the need,” he said, adding that the ongoing work from Agartala to the Border in the Indian terrain will be completed soon, while the work from Nishchintapur to Gangasagar in Bangladesh is under progress.

He said, “There were some issues with the land acquisition in Bangladesh. But during the recent visit of the Bangladesh prime Minister in New Delhi, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured of solving the issues at the earliest with every possible initiative from the Indian part, because the government looks set to further strengthen the ties between the two nations.”

The Union Minister was accompanied by the statge tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Union MoS for social justice and empowerment Pratima Bhoumik and officials.
