Mahadev Betting Case Explained: Rs 200 Cr UAE Wedding Paid In Cash That Brought Bollywood Stars Under ED Scanner
Oct 05, 2023The Enforcement Directorate unearthed a mega money laundering network linked with the Mahadev Online Book app. Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor, has been summoned on October 6, by the agency in connection with the case. Besides Ranbir, about 20 other actors and singers are under ED scanner, including Atif Aslam, Vishal Dadlani, Tiger Shroff, Sunny Leone and others.
In mid September, the agency conducted searches in Kolkata, Bhopal, Mumbai and other cities and found a swath of incriminating evidence. The ED also seized and froze Rs 417 crore worth proceeds. In its statement the agency remarked that many celebrities have been endorsing these betting apps. They also performed at their functions for staggering fees. These hefty amounts were transacted dubiously. The illicit payments were ultimately made from the proceeds of the betting money of the app. A staggering Rs 200 crore worth wedding paid entirely in cash! The quantum of the scam could well be beyond Rs 5000 crore according to the ED.
