Tripura Govt’s first English medium degree college begins journey


The Tripura government’s first ever English medium general degree college has begun its journey from Tuesday. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha accompanied by the state education minister Ratan Lal Nath has inaugurated the Hrishi Shri Aurobindo Government English Medium Degree College here at Agartala Kunjaban.

Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Deepak Majumdar, Director of Higher Education Department N C Sharma, Secretary Apurba Roy, College Principal Dipankar Chakraborty, and Aurobindo Society Chairman Pradip Nath among others were present in the function. Inaugurating the college, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that with an aim to make the state of Tripura a hub of education, the government is working to upgrade the academic infrastructure so as to impart quality education.

He further pointed out that the state government has also introduced several innovative programs to pluck the dropout and bring the students back to school, quality food with varieties in mid-day meals, schemes to attract students to school study, special coaching for the medical and engineering aspirants after Class X exam and many more. Meanwhile, the education minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the Tripura government has made education free of cost for the girls in the degree colleges. He said, “Tripura is the first state in the country which launched Rs. 2000 social pension and no other state in the country has this.”

The Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath highlighted that the state government has invested a huge amount of money in the infrastructure development of schools and colleges in the last four years. Renovating the old Teachers’ Training College, Tripura government has built the general degree college at the cost of over rupees one crore as committed in the budget this year. The five basic subjects of the arts stream including compulsory Bengali and English will be taught here from this academic session that began last month.
