6 NLFT militants with weapons surrenders before Tripura police


At least six militants of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) outfit surrendered before the Tripura police on Friday with weapons.

The Office fo the Director General of Police in its press communique on Friday stated, “Coming under the pressure of concerted psychological and physical operations by Tripura Police, six NLFT (PD group) extremists crossed over to India territory from their hideout in Bangladesh to join the main stream of life and surrendered before Tripura Police.”

The surrendered militants are identified by the police as Jatindra Tripura (36) of Surjyaham para in North Tripura District, Mokhiram Tripura (36) of Surjyaham para in North Tripura District, Pradip Tripura (27) of Biswaram Roaja Para in Dhalai District. Romawia Reang (50) of Setu para in North Tripura, Johanjoy Reang (36) of Aniram para in North Tripura and another Mani Charan Tripura (38) of New Dalapati (Madhuhari para) in Dhalai District.

According to the police, the NLFT militants surrendered weapons including 2 Chinese rifles, 1 Country made Sten gun, 6 live rounds (70mm), 2 Chinese Grenade, 15 (7.62) live rounds, 2 extortion notice book and Bangladesh currency of Rs. 1000.

“The group of six having been cornered and getting motivated, renounced the path of bloodshed and made a choice of peace. This group of NLFT(PD) has been operationally very active across the fence in Bangladesh. They joined extremist outfit in between 2017 and 2022,” the press communique stated.

Earlier, during the previous months of January, at least 10 NLFT extremists surrendered before the police and BSF jawans separately in different occasion.
