Day after the declaration of the results of the Tripura Legislative Assembly elections, the outgoing Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha of the then BJP led coalition government on Friday tendered his resignation with the governor Satyadeo Narain Arya at Raj Bhawan here at Agartala.

Dr. Saha said, “I tendered my resignation to the governor. He asked me to continue till the new government is formed.”

He said that the government of BJP-IPFT alliance will take oath on March 8 next. He however said that he did not stake a claim to form the government.

The ruling BJP and its ally Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) won 32 seats and one constituency respectively to return to power in the northeastern state for the second consecutive term.

The Chief minister's name will be decided at the legislature party meeting, the date of which has not yet been fixed, said BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty.
