Jul 08, 2025
In a major step towards strengthening disaster preparedness, the state of Tripura will conduct a large-scale mock drill on disaster management on Wednesday, July 9. The exercise will begin at 7:30 AM and take place simultaneously across various locations in the state.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar said that the state-level mock drill will be centrally conducted at Umakanta Ground in Agartala. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with multiple state and central agencies, will participate in the drill to demonstrate coordination and response capabilities during disaster situations.
In West Tripura district alone, 12 locations have been identified for the exercise—six will simulate flood scenarios, while the other six will focus on landslides.
Under the Sadar sub-division, the following four key locations will host the mock drill: Anandanagar Bottling Plant, Vidyasagar Lake, MBB College Lake, IGM Hospital.
Dr. Kumar noted that Tripura witnessed unprecedented floods and landslides in August last year, which exposed several vulnerabilities in disaster response. "This mock drill is part of our continued effort to review our readiness and identify any gaps in our systems," he said.
Agencies participating in the drill include the NDRF, state police, fire and emergency services, Assam Rifles, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), ONGC, Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD), Public Works Department (PWD), and other line departments.
