PM Modi replies to Motion of Thanks on President’s address in Rajya Sabha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that his government has taken bold and big policy decisions resulting in India becoming the fifth largest economy in the world. The Prime Minister was replying in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday on the discussion on the motion of thanks to President Droupadi Murmu's address to the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament.

Attacking the Congress, Mr. Modi accused it of creating narratives to divide the country by promoting north vs south debate. He alleged that Congress' thoughts have become out-dated. He took a dig at the opposition party saying Congress does not have guarantee of its leaders and policies but is questioning his government’s guarantees. In an apparent reference to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee’s comments that the Congress will not cross 40 seats mark in the upcoming general elections, Mr. Modi took potshot saying he prays that Congress is able to secure 40 seats. He said, Congress party muzzled democracy for power and they dismissed democratically elected governments in the past, but they are now preaching about democracy and federalism. He accused the Congress of promoting nepotism. Raising questions over the economic situation of the country during the UPA regime, the Prime Minister said, Indian economy was in the fragile five category during UPA rule and policy paralysis was the character of that government. He alleged that Congress was influenced with the colonial mindset but his government has abolished the signs and symbols of colonial rule. Mr. Modi alleged that Congress deprived the SC-ST and OBC of Jammu and Kashmir of their rights for seven decades.
