Assam Rifles to Commemorate Vijay Diwas on Dec 16


Agartala, Dec 12: The Assam Rifles has geared up to commemorate the contribution of the state and people of this state to mark Vijay Diwas on December 16 next.The Assam Rifles in its press communique on Monday stated that a motor bike rally will be organised on December 16 jointly with the local bikers club of Tripura to mark the Vijay Diwas.

The bike rally will be flagged off from Kasilasahar, move to Teliamura and will culminate at 'Liberation War Memorial Circle' here at Agartala to honour the memories of the sacrifice made by the people of the state who played crucial role during the Liberation War, it further stated. Tripura had played a significant role during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.

The state provided a launch pad to the nation for conduct of a successful operation against Pakistan which is written in golden words in the history of India. Mukti Bahini Combat Aviation Formation, codenamed as 'Kilo Flight'; undertook its first aerial operation, on 03 December 1971 from the state of Tripura i.e. Kailasahar & Teliamura in which twin airstrikes were carried out on Chittagong and Narayanganj of then East Pakistan and it was on this day that the commencement of hostilities between the two nations began.The war which commenced from Tripura took Pakistan completely by surprise and turned the tide of the war thus contributing to India's victory over Pakistani Forces.
