Tripura becoming gateway for international trade: PM Modi

With barely 2 months left for the crucial 2023 assembly election in the state of Tripura, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sunday hailed the progress of developmental works in the state and said that Tripura is becoming the gateway to the North-East region of the country for international trade.

PM Modi on Sunday arrived here at Agartala and inaugurated the state’s first dental college and hotel management institution from Swami Vivekananda ground. PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of various development projects worth over ₹4,350 crore in Agartala.

“The State had established road and water connectivity with Bangladesh and the government had been making efforts to complete the Agartala – Akhaura (Bangladesh) rail link soon to further boost the State’s position as an ‘economic corridor’,” PM Modi said on Sunday while addressing a public rally from Swami Vivekananda ground.

Without naming the erstwhile CPI-M led left front government, the Prime Minister said, “There was no development in the state of Tripura earlier as previous government was on its reverse gear with only negativities. But the double-engine government is accelerating on its developmental works speedily with all positive agendas and planning.”

“The double-engine government is working hard so that people of the northeastern state are benefitted. People started getting pucca houses under PMAY scheme, while the government is working in all the major sectors like health and education,” PM Modi said, adding that the biggest scheme like ‘Ayushman Bharat’ has brought a large number of beneficiaries under the coverage of Health scheme.

He said, “The people belonging to the Janajati communities were deprived at large due to the cheap politics of the previous government, but the BJP government has given foremost priority in enhancing the livelihood of the Janajatis across the country. Wherever we have formed the government, we have given top priority to tribal welfare.”

Soon after launching the developmental projects on Sunday, PM Modi said, “Tripura emerged as the cleanest among small states of the country.”

“I congratulate the people of Tripura that you have launched a huge campaign related to cleanliness here. In the last 5 years, you have made cleanliness a mass movement. As a result of this, this time Tripura has emerged as the cleanest state in the country among small states.” he said.

Modi launched the "Grih Pravesh" programme for more than two lakh beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban and Rural - schemes.
