Two migrants die, around 20 others missing after boat sinks in Mediterranean

At least two migrants have died and around 20 others are missing after a boat sank in the Mediterranean between Tunisia and Italy. The boat sank overnight Saturday to Sunday. According to reports, at least 22 people rescued and took them to the Italian island of Lampedusa. It said, around 44 migrants were on the boat when it left Sfax in Tunisia.

Meanwhile, a boat with around 400 people on board was reported to have got into difficulties yesterday when it went adrift between Greece and Malta and took on water. The boat departed from Tobruk in Libya. According to reports, the vessel was out of fuel and its lower deck full of water, while the captain had left and there was nobody who could steer the boat.

German NGO Sea-Watch International said, it had found the boat with two merchant ships nearby. It said, the Maltese authorities had ordered the ships not to carry out a rescue and that one of them was just asked to supply it with fuel. Last week 440 migrants were rescued off Malta after a complex 11-hour operation in stormy seas.
