Tripura approaching towards self-sufficiency in animal origin food: Minister Sudhangshu Das


The state Animal Resource Development Department (ARDD) Minister Sudhangshu Das on Thursday said that the government is working towards becoming self-sufficient and ensure adequate supply of animal origin food including milk, meat, fish and egg.

The minister on Thursday chaired a district level review meeting of ARDD, Fisheries and SC welfare department here in the conference hall of the office of the District Magistrate at Agartala.

He said that the meeting is to mainly discuss the present status of the production and consumption rate of milk, meat, fish and egg in the West district of the state. Government aims to fill up the gap between the production and consumption rate so that the people of the district can access the local products in an adequate amount, he told reporters.

Deputy Mayor of the Agartala Municipal Corporation Manika Das Datta, Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad, officials of the concerned departments among others were present in the meeting.

The meeting is also to find out the feasibility of income generation for the unemployed youths of the state under the ARDD and Fisheries department, he said, adding that the focus will also be put on the present status of the implementation of different government schemes under the SC welfare department.

On the other hand, the minister on Thursday expressed concern over the shortage of veterinary officers in different parts of the state and told the reporters that initiative has been taken to fill up the vacant posts of veterinary officers and other staff and deploy them accordingly in the veterinary centres, sub-centers, hospitals and dispensaries. The department had already approached the TPSC for filling up the posts lying vacant, he added.
