CEO appeals to ensure zero-post poll violence


In view of the sporadic incident of post-poll violence in some parts of the state, the Chief Electoral Officer of the state election commission Kiren Gitte on Saturday appealed to all the political parties to maintain law and order situation and ensure zero-post poll violence.

Addressing a press conference here at the state election commission office on Saturday, the CEO said that the state has adequate security forces to maintain peace and law and order situation.

“A total of 6 sporadic incidents took place on the day of polling on February 16 last, but none of the incidents took place within the 200 meters of the polling station. As of now 16 incidents of post poll violence took place in some parts of the state, which includes 2 each in Gomati, Unakoti and West Tripura district, while 9 incidents are reported from Sepahijala district of the state and FIR has been lodged for each of the incidents,” he told reporters.    

Meanwhile, the CEO informed that after the conclusion of the polling, the EVMs were brought sealed to the strong room here at Agartala in presence of the political party candidates and observers. “Three-tier security including CAPF jawans, TSRs and state Police are being deployed to protect the strong room and additional CCTVs have been installed in each strong room for security purposes,” he said.

He also said that the scrutiny of presiding officer diary, form-A, form-C of 60 assembly constituencies was completed on February 17 last. He said, “There is no possibility of re-poll anywhere.”

Representatives of CAPF including West Tripura District Magistrate Debapriya Bardhan and Police Officer Shankar Debnath were present at the press conference.
