Heroin worth Rs 7 lakh seized, one female drug peddler arrested

In a major drug haul, Tripura police on Tuesday arrested one female drug peddler and seized around 100 grams of heroin worth Rs 7 lakh from Fultali area under Amtali Police Station.

The police stated that they received a crucial tip-off, on the basis of the tip of police personnel from Amtali Police Station conducted a raid in the house of Gauri Debnath in Fultali area. During the raid police personnel found around 100 grams of heroin packed in six soap cases from the house. The husband of Gauri Debnath namely Krishna Debnath was previously arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Moreover, the estimated value of the confiscated heroin in the illicit market amounts to approximately Rs 7 lakh. The seized heroin was intended for smuggling purposes, said police.

However, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has called on Tripura to get rid of drugs. Police are seizing crores worth of heroin, brown sugar, cannabis (ganja) and arresting traffickers, but the real kingpins remain out of reach, which is why the state is not moving towards a drug-free state despite so many anti-drug campaigns.
