Expand handloom industry through modern tech: CM DR. Manik Saha


Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday new administrative building of Tripura Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation and Urban Hat Complex at Purbasha Complex and said that there is a need to expand the handloom industry in Tripura through the use of modern technology.

“The products of handloom and handicraft artists of the state are now famous in the country and abroad. Therefore, there is a need to further expand the handloom industry through the use of modern technology,” he said.

He said, “There was a lot of potential to improve the traditional handloom industry of the state. But the previous government turned Purbasha into a rehabilitation centre. Various sales centers in Purbasha were pushed to ruin. No initiative for the development of Purbasha was taken properly at that time.”

“The present state government is working on various schemes to keep the traditional industries of the state alive,” Chief Minister Dr. Saha said that the Prime Minister of the country has shown the countrymen how to develop in every field.

He said that in order to further develop the handloom industry in the state, initiatives should also be taken to skill the handloom and weaving artists through modern training.

“Besides, the products of the handloom industry should be promoted abroad. Only then will it be possible to build a self-reliant Tripura,” he said.

Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Deepak Majumder said that the current state government is working seriously to expand the handloom industry. The government has taken various schemes with the aim of making all the government acquired companies of the state profitable, he said.
