Manipur CM N. Biren Singh launches Imphal-Ukhrul-Imphal helicopter services to make travel easier


Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh launched the Imphal-Ukhrul-Imphal helicopter services to make travel easier for the people. The launching of the Helicopter Service to Ukhrul today will ease the trouble of the people while transporting patients and during other emergencies. The flight frequency will be on every Saturday from Imphal to Ukhrul and Ukhrul to Imphal with a fare of rupees two thousand five hundred per flight per passenger. During the launching programme on Monday, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that the government is trying to cover major areas in the hill districts.

The Manipur helicopter Service was launched in 2018 under the subsidy scheme (75:25) of the Ministry of Home Affairs and successfully operated the service from Imphal to Tamenglong, Jiribam, and the border town Moreh in Tengnoupal district. In the last five years (2018-2023), the helicopter services have served around 31,163 passengers from various districts and enhanced services on emergency relief, rescue operations, and medical emergency evacuations, informed the Chief Minister.

The event, conducted virtually from the Chief Minister's Secretariat, also saw the launch of District Transport Offices in five districts - Pherzawl, Kakching, Noney, Kamjong, and Jiribam. The new initiatives aim to enhance connectivity and transportation services in the region.

Later, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh attended the distribution of welfare benefits at Hapta Kangjeibung and handed cheques to select beneficiaries of Accidental Death benefits and Natural Deaths under the Labour Card scheme.
