Tirthamukh Mela on Makar Sankranti strengthens the culture of ethnic groups: Tribal Welfare Minister


Agartala, Jan 14: The traditional Tirthamukh Mela organised on the occasion of Makar Sankranti in Tripura which is also known as Poush Sankranti is aimed to strengthen the culture and tradition of the ethnic groups of the state, said tribal welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia on Friday. He said that from the time immemorial since the rule of Maharajas, the different ethnic groups in the state have been marking the day by worshipping their ancestors at Tirthamukh by taking holy dip on the river.

The minister had inaugurated the Tirthamukh fair in presence of MP Rebati Tripura and other officials.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia said that the state government is committed to preserve the culture of all religions including castes and tribes and present it to the new generation.

Meanwhile, MP Rebati Tripura said that the state government has taken initiatives to develop the tourism sector. Initiatives have been taken to develop telecommunication system including roads. He opined that the picture of this place will change only with the development of communication system. A helipad has been set up at Narikelkunj for the development of communication system. Work is underway to set up a log hut for tourists to spend the night.
