Heavy rains mark stunning start to Paris Olympics 2024; all eyes on today’s sporting events

Amid thunderclouds and heavy rain, the Paris Olympics 2024 got off to a stunning start last night. The focus now shifts to the sporting events today. India began the campaign on day one of the games in seven events, including Badminton and Hockey. In the men’s single sculls heats, Balraj Pawer finished fourth in Heat 1 having finished his race in 7:07:11 and will be competing in the repechage round tomorrow, where he will get another opportunity to reach the quarter-finals. The top three rowers in each of the heats make it to the quarter-finals. In shooting both Indian Teams are out of Medal contention in 10m Mixed Team Air Rifle competition, Team 1 comprising Sandeep Singh and Elavenil Valarivan finished 12th and Team 2 comprising Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal finished 6th in Qualification Round. 10m Air Pistol Men’s Qualification is underway, in which Arjun Singh Cheema and Sarabjot Singh are in action. Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan will also start their campaign today with the 10m Air Pistol Women’s Qualification at 4 PM. LIVE In tennis, the Indian duo of Rohan Bopanna and Sriram Balaji will take on the French pair of Fabien Reboul and Édouard Roger-Vasselin in the men’s doubles first-round match at 3:30 PM. In badminton, ace shuttler Lakshya Sen will be up against Kevin Cordon in the men’s singles group stage match at 7:10 PM. In the men’s doubles category, India’s top pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will lock horns with France’s Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar in their opening match at 8 PM. In the women’s doubles category, Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto will play against the Korean pair Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong in their first group stage match at 11:50 PM.In table tennis, Harmeet Desai will start his campaign against Jordan’s Yaman Zaid Jor Abo in the men’s singles event in the preliminary round at 7:15 PM.
In hockey, after the historic bronze finish in the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian men’s team will aim to change the colour of their medal as they start their journey against New Zealand in a Pool B match at 9 PM. In boxing, Preeti Pawar will be up against Vietnam’s Vo Thi Kim Anh in the women’s 54kg round of 32 clash at 12:02 AM tomorrow.
