BJP MLA tenders resignation ahead of 2023 poll to join TIPRA Motha

In yet another major blow to the ruling BJP led coalition government in Tripura ahead of the crucial 2023 assembly elections, senior party MLA on Friday rendered his resignation during the first day of the assembly session. BJP MLA Burba Mohan Tripura was accompanied by the TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman, former IPFT MLA Brishaketu Debbarma and others while rendered the resignation with the assembly speaker Ratan Chakraborty.

"I hereby tender my resignation to the membership of 43 (ST) Karbook Constituency Assembly and request you to kindly accept my resignation," Tripura wrote in his resignation letter to the speaker on Friday. MLA Burba Mohan Tripura will soon join the TIPRA Motha party to enhance the party's contest for the upcoming elections in Tripura. Earlier, Brishaketu Debbarma, who was disqualified as a legislator Tuesday last for violating the norms of the state assembly joined the TIPRA Motha party by quitting the IPFT party - an alliance partner of the ruling BJP.

Brishaketu Debbarma's disqualification is the second disqualification of an MLA in the current BJP-led government’s tenure — the first being former BJP legislator Ashish Das, who switched over to Trinamool Congress in May 2021 and was later dropped from the House earlier this year.
