‘Tripura assembly poll – the opportunity to oust fascist BJP’ – Left-Congress calls for restoring democracy

The Left front and the Congress party on Monday held a joint press conference and appealed to the voters of the state to take the forthcoming assembly election as an opportunity to restore democracy by ousting the ‘fascist’ BJP party from Tripura.

Addressing the press conference here at Agartala Press Club on Monday evening, the CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Choudhury said, “This ensuing election is a big opportunity for the people of this state to oust the fascistic BJP party from the state.”

He castigated the BJP and alleged that during the last five years of its government, the BJP managed to discover fascistic attacks on the oppositions and common citizens of the state and continued its misrule.

“Democracy which went in stake for the last five years needs to be restored,” he said, adding that both the congress and the CPI(M) – the secular and democratic party has come together to rescue the people of this state from a very suffocating atmosphere that they have been reeling for the past five years under BJP’s rule.

On the other hand, the AICC secretary and state in-charge Szarita Laitphlang expressed concern over the role of the election commission and alleged, “Despite assurances of level playing field in the coming election based on their Zero Poll Violence mission, the ‘Bike Bahinis’ continue to create havoc across the state, while section of police officers playing a role of silent spectators.”

She said, “This oppositions are always being targeted in terms of granting permission for holding rallies and campaigns, whereas the BJP goons are being eased doing nuisances in the name of party campaigning and rallies across the state.”

Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Birjit Sinha, representatives of the frontal organisations of the Left front among others were present in the press conference on Monday.
