PM Modi launches redevelopment work of Agartala railway station


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday laid the foundation stone for redevelopment work of Agartala Railway station in addition to other stations across the country under the ‘Amrit Bharat’ scheme of the Central government.

PM Modi laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of at least 553 railway stations under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of over Rs 19,000 crores through video conferencing from New Delhi.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha accompanied by the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, and others were present on the occasion here at Agartala Railway Station, where PM Modi’s foundation stone laying ceremony was screened Live from Delhi.

The Amrit Bharat Station Project will redevelop 554 railway stations in the country and construct over 1500 road over bridges and underpasses. 41 thousand crores have been estimated for the implementation of these projects. Rs. 41,000 crore is sanctioned for the revamp work of the Agartala Railway Station.

Addressing the programme after the Prime Minister’s address to the nation, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said that an unprecedented development has been achieved in the communication system of the state.

“At present 17 to 18 express trains, Vistadome coaches, Rajdhani Express are plying in the state. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Act East policy, the Amrit Bharat Station project has undertaken the modernization of 91 railway stations in the North-Eastern region in the first phase and 7 more in the second phase,” Dr Said, adding that almost 50 percent of the 6 national highways of the state have been completed.

He said, “The state is progressing rapidly in all areas under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's HIRA model. The Prime Minister is the guarantee of development.”
