Drugs worth over Rs. 101 Cr seized in last 3 years, over 2000 held: CM Dr. Manik Saha


Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday said that the government has urged the Centre to establish a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) here at Agartala in a bid to achieve the mission of building ‘Nesha-Mukt’ Tripura.

Dr. Saha, who also holds the home portfolio, on Monday informed the assembly that drugs worth Rs. 101.66 crore have been seized during the last three years, while more than 2000 accused in connection with different cases have been arrested.

“Some important cases registered under the NDPS Act were handed over to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the Tripura Crime Branch to identify the main culprits and unearth the network, financiers, inter-state links etc.,” he added.

He said, “A proposal is under consideration to purchase a full body scanner to scan vehicles carrying narcotics. In order to increase the efficiency of investigation of NDPS cases, security forces personnel are being regularly trained in related subjects at the KTDS Police Training Academy in Narshingarh.’
