Floods Ravage Low-Lying Areas of Nagaland; Evacuation Efforts Underway
Jul 09, 2025
Several low-lying areas in Nagaland remain submerged after heavy rainfall late Monday night triggered widespread flooding, particularly along the state’s border with Assam. The deluge has caused significant disruption in Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts, prompting large-scale rescue and evacuation operations.
In Dimapur district, areas such as Lengrijan, Bor Lengri, and Riverbelt Colony have been among the worst affected, with floodwaters inundating homes, roads, and public infrastructure. Local authorities confirmed that State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed to evacuate stranded residents and provide emergency assistance.
Much of Dimapur town continues to grapple with waterlogging, which has severely disrupted daily life and hindered access to essential services. Emergency services have reported difficulties in reaching affected areas due to submerged roadways.
On Tuesday afternoon, Moatoshi Longkumer, Advisor for Labour, Employment & Skill Development and Chairman of the Dimapur District Planning and Development Board, visited the flood-hit areas. He was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur and other senior officials to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate relief efforts.
In neighbouring Chümoukedima district, Ward-4 has also experienced severe flooding. Several homes have sustained damage, though no casualties have been reported so far.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, and relief shelters have been set up for those displaced by the floods. Weather officials warn that further rainfall is expected over the coming days, potentially worsening the situation.
Emergency response teams continue to monitor the situation closely, as efforts to restore normalcy are underway.
