Tripura largely unaffected by Nationwide Strike, Says BJP State Secretary Tapas Majumdar

The nationwide strike called by ten central trade unions had little impact in Tripura, with life continuing as usual across the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attributed this to what it described as the public’s growing rejection of “outdated politics” promoted by Left-backed trade unions.
Speaking at a press conference held at the BJP’s state headquarters on Wednesday, BJP State Secretary Tapas Majumdar said that normalcy prevailed across Tripura despite the strike call. “Schools, colleges, banks, and government offices functioned without disruption. There were no reports of violence or unrest,” he stated. While acknowledging minor disruptions in a few isolated pockets, Majumdar emphasized that the situation was quickly brought under control. “Attempts were made to disturb public life in certain areas, but the administration responded promptly and effectively,” he added.
Majumdar strongly criticized the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), a prominent Left-affiliated trade union, for allegedly misrepresenting the public response in the state. “It is ironic that CITU leaders are claiming a massive response in Tripura, while the reality on the ground tells a completely different story. The people have moved on from their outdated brand of politics,” he said.
Highlighting the achievements of the BJP-led government, Majumdar said that Tripura has seen rapid development since the party came to power. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, numerous welfare schemes have reached the poorest sections of society. The people have placed their trust in progress, not protest,” he asserted.
He also accused Left-leaning organizations of attempting to derail the state’s development. “These strikes are nothing but desperate efforts to revive a political culture that no longer resonates with the people. Today, the public stands firmly with progress over disruption,” Majumdar added.
