International Yoga Day; Tripura to host State-level event in Agartala

In celebration of the upcoming International Yoga Day on June 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a massive initiative to organize yoga sessions across one lakh locations throughout India. As part of this nationwide movement, 1,000 new yoga parks will also be established to promote holistic health and well-being.
In Tripura, the state-level International Yoga Day celebration will be held at the International Exhibition Ground in Hapania, Agartala. The event will be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha. This year's global theme for International Yoga Day is "One Earth, One Health."
Briefing the media persons in press conference at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy, outlined the state’s preparations. He stated that the Yoga Day celebrations will see participation from various organizations, including Tripura Police, BSF, CRPF, TSR, NCC, NSS, NYKS, school scouts and guides, yoga organizations, students, and employees from various government departments.
In addition to the main event in Agartala, yoga sessions will be conducted simultaneously across all districts, subdivisions, and blocks of the state. On June 20, a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign) and a Yoga Asana competition will also be organized. Furthermore, a mega blood donation camp will be held to mark the occasion.
One of the iconic locations selected for the celebration in Tripura is the Unakoti Heritage Site, where yoga sessions will also be conducted.
Minister Tinku Roy also highlighted the recent initiatives by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education. The government has taken steps to bring differently-abled persons (divyangjan)—with 60% or more disability and an annual family income not exceeding ₹1 lakh—under the Social Pension Scheme. In December 2024, 2,537 differently-abled individuals were approved for pension benefits.
In the second phase, an additional 658 beneficiaries have been approved this month and will begin receiving pensions from today.
In support of cancer patients, a Help Desk was inaugurated on May 1 at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Hospital. So far, 118 applications have been received for social pension support, and the approved applicants will start receiving benefits from today.
Tripura currently has One-Stop Centers (OSCs) for women in distress operating in every district. The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, has recently approved two new centers in Agartala and Kailashahar.
In terms of early childhood care, there are presently 10,222 Anganwadi centers in the state. In May 2025, 53 new Anganwadi centers were opened. Under the Dhartree Aba Janajati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), the central government has approved 119 new Anganwadi centers in Tripura, with a sanctioned fund of ₹14.68 crore.
Secretary of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Director of Social Welfare and Social Education Tapan Kumar Das and Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Satyabrata Nath was also present.
