Along with the rest of the country, Tripura also celebrated National Science Day on Wednesday at Sukanta Academy for Science, Arts & Culture, Agartala. The theme for National Science Day 2024 is "Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat," highlighting the importance of homegrown innovations for the development of the nation.
Addressing in the ceremony minister for Finance, Planning and Coordination, Information Technology Pranajit Singha Roy said On this day in 1928, CV Raman discovered a phenomenon of the scattering of photons, which was later known as the ‘Raman Effect’ after his name.
After two years in 1930, he got the Nobel Prize for this remarkable discovery, and this was the first Nobel Prize for India in the field of science. To mark the discovery of his famous phenomenon, National Science Day is celebrated in India on this day each year, he added.
National Science Day holds immense significance for several reasons, both historically and in the present day. Recognizes the contributions of scientists, It honours the achievements of Indian scientists and their contributions to scientific progress. Highlights the importance of scientific temper, this day promotes the development of a scientific mindset and encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Encourages young people to pursue careers in science and technology, this day aims to inspire the next generation of scientists and researchers, he added.
Since its inception, Tripura State Council for Science & Technology (TSCST), Govt of Tripura is also working towards the popularization of Science and to inculcate Scientific Temper among the people of the State through different programes. The reason behind the celebration of National Science Day is to spread the message of importance of science and its applications among the people. This is essential to accelerate the pace of development, he added.
Meanwhile, "March for Science" a rally and a Science Exhibition as a part of Celebration of National Science Day was also held.
