Evacuation process in disaster-affected areas of Sikkim continues


The evacuation process in disaster-affected areas of Sikkim continues. So far, over 2500 people have been rescued and around 3500 have been evacuated. The death toll stands at 37.

 Several labourers and migrant workers evacuated from the disaster-affected regions of North Sikkim, Mangan district were transported to Siliguri from Gangtok today.

 Meanwhile, in North Sikkim, materials for the construction of a bridge and an under-construction Bailey bridge were washed away today at Sankhalang as incessant rain surged the Teesta water level, which had receded after flash floods. Mangan District administration has alerted people residing near the river in view of rising water levels. The Dikchu-Mangan road is blocked due to erosion of its foundation near Phidang and commuters to North Sikkim have been recommended the Phudung-Phensong route. A motor ropeway has been installed at Phidang.
