CPI-M MLA dies of cardiac arrest


Senior CPI-M leader and MLA Shamsul Haque, elected for the first time from the Boxanagar constituency this year passed away at 67 following a cardiac arrest on Tuesday night.

Haque was rushed to Agartala GBP Hospital after he was feeling uneasy. Later he was reported to have suffered another heart attack in the hospital that led to his death. He was survived by wife and four sons.

His body was brought to the state Assembly building in Agartala Wednesday morning, where Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Paul, Chief Whip Kalyani Roy, MLAs of the treasury and Opposition paid their last respects.

Following this, the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha cancelled all his public events for the day as a mark of respect for the departed MLA.

“I have decided to cancel all my government programmes today following the demise of Hon’ble member of Tripura Legislative Assembly Samsul Haque Ji”, the CM wrote on his official Twitter handle.
